One of the most common questions I get as a Boca Raton photographer: “When is the best time of year for photos in South Florida?”
The good news — unlike most of the country, we can shoot outside almost year-round. The bad news — South Florida weather has its quirks. Here’s what you need to know before booking your beach session in Boca Raton or anywhere in Palm Beach County.
The Short Answer
October through April is the golden window for outdoor photography in South Florida.
The weather is cool, the humidity drops, the light is incredible, and the afternoon thunderstorms that define South Florida summers are mostly gone.
Month-by-Month Breakdown
October & November — Peak Season Begins
October is when everything clicks in South Florida. The summer heat breaks, the humidity drops, the tourists haven’t arrived yet, and golden hour on Boca Raton’s beaches is absolutely stunning.
My recommendation: If you want the best possible photos, book in October or November. Spots fill fast.
- Temperature: 70s–80s°F
- Humidity: Low
- Crowds: Moderate
- Golden hour quality: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
December & January — Holiday Season
December is wildly popular for obvious reasons — everyone wants holiday card photos. January is beautiful but snowbirds arrive and beaches get more crowded.
- Temperature: 60s–75°F
- Humidity: Very low
- Crowds: High in December
- Golden hour quality: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
February & March — Snowbird Season Peak
Beautiful weather, but Boca Raton and Palm Beach beaches are at their most crowded. Early morning sessions work best in February and March to beat the crowds.
- Temperature: 65–78°F
- Humidity: Low
- Crowds: High
- Tip: Book early morning sessions on weekdays to avoid spring break crowds
April — The Last Great Month
April marks the tail end of the ideal outdoor season in South Florida. Still beautiful, but humidity starts creeping back in the latter half of the month.
- Temperature: 75–85°F
- Humidity: Rising
- Crowds: Moderate
May & June — Transition Season
Technically still bookable, but sessions must be in the early morning or golden hour to avoid the intense heat. Afternoon thunderstorms become increasingly common.
- Temperature: 80s–90s°F
- Humidity: High
- Storms: Possible in afternoons
July, August & September — Rainy Season
South Florida’s rainy season runs roughly June through September. Daily afternoon thunderstorms are common, which makes outdoor scheduling tricky. We do shoot year-round, but sessions require more flexibility and a rain plan.
That said, the light after a storm in South Florida is some of the most dramatic and beautiful you’ll ever see. If we get the timing right, July and August can produce jaw-dropping images.
What About Time of Day?
Regardless of month, golden hour — the 60 minutes before sunset — produces the most beautiful light for outdoor photography in Boca Raton. The warm, soft, directional light is flattering for everyone and gives your images that unmistakable South Florida glow.
Early morning sessions (sunrise through 9 AM) are a close second, and often better for avoiding crowds at popular Boca Raton beach locations.
Avoid midday. Overhead sun creates harsh shadows, squinting, and unflattering light, especially on South Florida’s bright, reflective beaches.
